The Vision Realized: Creating Writing Our World™
The Power of Words
I’m currently taking an acting class and was recently instructed to memorize a short monologue to perform in an upcoming session. Our class was told that we could choose any piece of writing that we wanted for this assignment, and I immediately knew what I wanted to recite. George Saunders, an author I deeply respect, challenged himself to write a very, very short story called Sticks (which I highly recommend you give a read). This brief piece is brimming with beauty and heartbreak, documenting the ritual of one man and the way it impacted his family across his lifetime. This thought-provoking work left a lasting impact on me. It’s only two pages of words strung together, and it’s that powerful.
The power of words, expression, and creativity is why Writing Our World™ exists. Our team wanted to create something that would empower busy teachers and overwhelmed students to connect to that power.

Redwood Literacy: The Creators of Writing Our World™
At Redwood Literacy, we believe that words have the power to change lives, elevate systems, illuminate truth, and foster peace – and we believe that every individual deserves to have access to that power, and to discover for themselves what they can do with it, regardless of learning differences, socioeconomic background, or geographic location.
When I started developing Writing Our World™ five years ago, I never imagined that it would land where it has. So many incredible folks have added their unique value to this project – folks who were in the trenches of teaching it themselves while writing it. What we created has been designed around educator feedback, and we aim to continue elevating this tool every year, responding thoughtfully to the ideas and requests of those implementing it in their various environments, as well as paying close attention to student data. Redwood is committed to providing the best possible quality educational services and products to everyone, including those who otherwise wouldn’t have access. This is who we are and it is deeply a part of everything we create – including Writing Our World™.

A Program to Unlock Students’ Voices as Writers
I am grateful to the hundreds of educators who are choosing to use Writing Our World™ to teach their students with dyslexia to confidently express themselves through writing – both around the United States and internationally. As a result, hundreds of students are building the foundational writing skills they need to feel successful in something that historically has felt really difficult (sometimes even impossible). It’s not a magic potion, but it is a tool that is making a difference. It’s adding beauty to the world in a way I really believe in.
Cheers to all of the powerful words that students will confidently string together as a result of their work through Writing Our World™ – and cheers to the powerful impact those words will have on our world.
