Our mission is to empower every 3-12th grade teacher—especially those supporting neurodivergent learners—with easy-to-implement, flexible, and research-based writing lessons and student materials. Our curriculum equips every student to write multi-paragraph essays, beginning at the sentence level and progressing through 75 manageable substeps across 8 scaffolded units.

We envision a future where every school in America has access to Writing Our World™, so that no student graduates high school without the skills and confidence to write independently and effectively. 

Writing Our World™ was born out of the classroom experiences of our team at Redwood Day School, a full-day academic program for students with dyslexia in Chicago, IL. In 2019, on a mission to bring the highest quality intervention to her students, Redwood’s Founder & CEO Kait Feriante read The Writing Revolution®*, an evidence-based methodology for teaching writing. She immediately saw its value as a clear roadmap for guiding students—particularly neurodivergent learners—through the writing process. However, because the methodology wasn’t a full curriculum, Kait still had to invest significant time each day preparing lessons that were not only structured and research-backed, but also engaging and meaningful for her students.

She began creating her own ready-to-use lessons, sharing them with other Redwood teachers. She and her team were blown away by the transformative results they saw with their students. In 2020, Kait partnered with a colleague to expand the lessons and make them available to educators beyond Redwood through Teachers Pay Teachers. Since then, the Writing Our World™ team has grown, the curriculum has been elevated and refined, and the project has evolved into a full online membership platform used by hundreds of teachers across the globe. 

(Our curriculum has even received a rave review from nationally recognized literacy expert Joan Sedita (Keys to Literacy, The Writing Rope©), whose work has been a guiding influence on our approach.)

Fast forward to 2025, and Redwood Literacy is now proud to offer a free digital subscription to the complete Writing Our World™ program for any teacher. Being able to offer this free access to the curriculum is in line with the original core mission of Redwood: to make “evidence-based, life-changing intervention more widely available to any student who needs it, regardless of age, geographical location, or socio-economic background.”
