Our mission is to give every teacher, interventionist, special educator, tutor, and parent an evidence-based, easy-to-implement writing curriculum that works for every student, including the student who is behind: explicit lessons and student materials, written by dyslexia and learning behavior specialists, that can be taught in 15 minutes a day.

Writing Our World™ is a mastery-based expository writing curriculum for students K through 12, tied to skills, not grade levels. Every student works through one scope and sequence, across 8 steps, to independent multi-paragraph essays, and moves ahead once they show mastery.

We envision a future where every school in America has access to Writing Our World™, so that no student graduates high school without the skills and confidence to write independently and effectively. 

Writing Our World™ was born out of the classroom experiences of our team at Redwood Day School, a full-day academic program for students with dyslexia in Chicago, IL. In 2019, on a mission to bring the highest quality intervention to her students, Redwood’s co-founder and CEO Kait Feriante, creator of Writing Our World™, read The Writing Revolution®*, an evidence-based methodology for teaching writing. She immediately saw its value as a clear roadmap for guiding students—particularly neurodivergent learners—through the writing process. However, because the methodology wasn’t a full curriculum, Kait still had to invest significant time each day preparing lessons that were not only structured and research-backed, but also engaging and meaningful for her students.

She began creating her own ready-to-use lessons, sharing them with other Redwood teachers. She and her team were blown away by the transformative results they saw with their students. In 2020, Kait partnered with a colleague to expand the lessons and make them available to educators beyond Redwood through Teachers Pay Teachers. Since then, the Writing Our World™ team has grown, the curriculum has been elevated and refined, and the project has evolved into a full online membership platform used by hundreds of teachers across the globe. 

(Our curriculum has even received a rave review from nationally recognized literacy expert Joan Sedita (Keys to Literacy, The Writing Rope©), whose work has been a guiding influence on our approach.)

Today, Writing Our World™ 3.0 is complete: all eight steps, every slide deck and handout, the assistive technology routines, and the new Written Expression Screener. Anyone can start free with Starter Access, and a Founding License is $250 a year. It is still Redwood’s original mission: to make “evidence-based, life-changing intervention more widely available to any student who needs it, regardless of age, geographical location, or socio-economic background.”
